**NOTE** John Miller passed away in Aug. of 2021
I am a painter who first began my devotion to art as a figurative portrait painter, moving to figurative abstractions and geometric forms in the 1950's, and ended up becoming a digital image painter through the many uses of Photoshop's tools and effects. This work shifts the viewer's perception of depth and placement through my bold use of color, lines, textures, and shapes that resemble functional objects and figures. My 'digital paintings' for the past 20 years, combine photographs and scans of found objects that have lost their functionality, but have gained beauty because of traffic, neglect, and decomposition.
In 1953-1959, I opened one of Chicago's first alternative galleries, 414 Art Workshop Gallery. From 1958-1998, I taught in the painting department at the School Of The Art Institute Of Chicago.
